Hi there! This is the place to be if you want to read about: gardening/farming with different-abilities, farmers markets, and cooking and baking.
What to expect from the blog:
- Details from my market garden and any trials I run
- Guides on gardening topics like seed starting and container growing
- Seasonal recipes from the garden and farmer’s market
- Discussions on different-abilities in agriculture
With this blog, I hope to create a space for people to get ideas and encouragement to just try stuff in the garden or kitchen and see what happens. I will never pretend to be an expert on anything. I want to share lessons I’ve learned along the way, mistakes I make, and also to feel a little less alone in an able-bodied world. I get so frustrated and disheartened when I see post after post by farms on social media of how quickly and efficiently they run their operation and no mentions of the toll it takes on their bodies (minus the occasional gripe about back pain). I want to find and cultivate a community of growers where if I say, “it only took me two days to unload the compost!” rather than looking at me askance they get excited with me because they know how hard that can be when your body doesn’t want to cooperate.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not here to complain. I am a naturally optimistic person who tends to downplay any difficulties I’m having. I will most likely not talk about my challenges regularly, but I do feel strongly that this is a topic distinctly lacking from the overall agriculture conversation so I intend to contribute to it. I want to show others who may be hesitant to start on their gardening or farming journey that it is entirely possible to do so, even if your body doesn’t work the same as everyone else. You are a badass, and I am here for you.
What sorts of topics are you hoping I delve into?
